Nothing more encouraging than compliments from creative people

Handmade embroidered cuff

Well, I’m still mentally recovering from the DWYL retreat, really missing it and everyone I met there but feeling encouraged to continue trying to fit more creativity into my life.

Whilst at the retreat I got a lot of compliments for this embroidered cuff I was wearing – there’s nothing more encouraging than other creative people saying “That’s gorgeous! Did you make it? You should make those to sell I’d definitely buy one!”

So I finally got around to putting up my photos of it:

I only wish I could have captured the inside, as it’s lined with a dyed pink fabric that contrasts really well – I tried to get a photo but just couldn’t find the right angle.

I started with a base of green felt (which already came in a handy bracelet-sized width), and pinned down some scrunched up scrim over the top, then just started to sew randomly with some variegated thread. I can’t even remember what that type of stitch is called… then I did a load of french knots and sewed down those little white embellishments (I’m really not good on the technical terms!).

I lined it with a space dyed pink fabric and attached a ribbon and button fastening with some vintage lace for good measure.

Yup. Pretty pleased with the way it turned out overall!
