Tutorial: Jet Set Willy Cross Stitch Key Ring
Do you remember Jet Set Willy? If not here’s a little reminder:
Ages ago I made a little tribute, a key ring with Willy on one side and Maria on the other (the identity of Maria seems to be disputed – some think she’s Willy’s wife, others his Mum or his Housekeeper). Here’s how to make it.
You will need:
- An empty key ring case. You can get these from craft stores.
- Embroidery thread in the right colour: I used magenta and cyan. Those classic ZX Spectrum colours.
- Black felt
- Waste canvas
- Needle
- Scissors
Patterns
Get your thread ready and cut out a piece of waste canvas slightly bigger than your key ring shape. Following the pattern, start sewing over the waste canvas onto the black felt.
When it’s completed, start to gently pull out the waste canvas.
There she is in all her pointing glory.
Do the same with Willy
Carefully cut out the circles to fit into the key ring. There is usually a piece of thin card inside the key ring that you can use as a template.
Put the circles in back to back and pop the cover on. You’re done!
Now sit back and wait for the compliments from geeks of a certain age.
